For the past decade we have constantly been at the forefront of product development and in fact we the first company in the UK to create a security glass that achieved LPS1270 certification. Working closely with members of the police and security sectors, as well as insurers and the UK’s main certification boards, to continually update our products to best suit the needs of the industry. Our range of security glass covers the entire spectrum of required levels of security; from EN356 manual attack resistant glass commonly used in applications such as shop fronts and jewellery counters through to ISO 16933:2007 blast resistant glass. ESG Secure™356: Manual attack Resistant

Tested to ensure it withstands the type of high impact strikes that may occur as someone tries to smash to glass, EN356 uses two different types of test criteria depending on the level of protection the glass is tested to. P1A offers the lowest level of protection while P8B gives the highest. P1A – P4A are tested using the hard impact test which involves dropping 3 metal balls onto the glass in a group formation from increasing heights of 1.5m to 9m. P5A uses the same test but the balls are dropped three times from 9m instead of once.

The test for P6B-P8B involves simulating a much more violent attack on the glass and involves firstly hitting the glass with a hammer a minimum of 12 times to break the glass, then hitting the glass continually in an area 400mm x 400mm with an axe. The higher the number of times the glass is hit before the axe breaks through glass determines the rating of the glass. P6B survives up to 50 strikes through to P8B withstanding over 70.

 

ESG Secure™1270: Intruder resistant

Many see the testing that is required to achieve LPS1270 certification as a more ‘real life’ set of tests. Created by the Loss Prevention Certification Board it is endorsed by police and insurers alike who were consulted during its creation. The rating of the glass is indicated by three numbers eg 1/4/3. Each number depicts the glasses minimum resistance to the creation of a different size hole. The first number indicates how long and with what tools it takes to create a hole in the glass big enough to put a piece of wire or other such tool that can be used to open a handle or lock. The second number is how long and with what tools it takes to create a hole big enough to get an arm through the window and finally the third is for hole big enough to fit a human torso through. ESG Secure™1063: Ballistic Resistant

1063 is the glass that people put their trust into to save lives, it is the ballistic standard that defines bullet resistant glass. Through its multiple layers of glass and interlayers it slows down and stops the  bullet from passing through the glass while absorbing its energy across the entire panel. As with the other types of security glass there are varying levels of protection offered by bullet resistant glass, ranging from BR1-BR7 and then SG1 and SG2. Each level of protection is determined by firing into the glass within a triangular shape within 4-5". As the level of protection increases so does the size of gun and calibre of bullet used.  BR1 is tested against a rifle shooting a 0.22 bullet, while BR7 is tested with an assault rifle firing 7.62 calibre rounds. SG1 and SG2 are specially tested against shotguns. Our ballistic range also gives a spall and no spall tested result. When the glass is struck by the bullet the whole panel flexes and the energy from the bullet can push small splinters of glass in the direction the bullet was travelling. Spall means the glass was tested allowing these small pieces of glass to break away from the panel, while no spall means the glass stays completely intact with no splinters, with the help of a polycarbonate outer layer.

 

We also manufacture ESG Secure to ISO 19633:2007 blast resistant standards and we have the ability to combine all of our security glass products with our fire resistant and switchable glass products.
